Vestre Istinden
1432 metres of ascent over 5.24 km from Tindelva by Iselvmoen to Vestre Istinden, the highest of the Istindan tops and the landmark of Indre Troms. The tour is long and high rather than steep: the steepest hundred-metre band measures 21.6 degrees between 1400 and 1500 m, and the steepest sustained stretch 27.7 degrees — but the route runs along a ridge with what Fri Flyt calls «nordveggen», the north wall, on one side and the cirque holding the glacier on the other, and it is the edges rather than the averages that decide the day.

From the large car park where Tindelva comes down at Iselvmoen on the road toward Fjellstad, 80 m. Fjellstadveien is mapped as a public sealed road, so the start is ploughed year round. The line takes the south side of the river, as both sources say, and follows the mapped path up the steep birch hillside — the same path ut.no calls «tydelig og bra, men bratt», clear and good but steep, signposted with a green marker from the car park. The bands measure 18.2 degrees from 100 to 200 m, 21.0 from 200 to 300 and 19.2 from 300 to 400.
